I’m Prakhar Gupta. I’m obsessed with one question: why do humans behave the way they do? Through The Prakhar Gupta Xperience, I explore the human condition through psychology, philosophy, technology, culture and conversations with people who have lived extraordinary lives. I’m interested in the things we all experience but rarely know how to articulate: identity, ambition, loneliness, love, relationships, success, failure, meaning and everything in between. I don’t have all the answers. I’m trying to understand them, one conversation, one idea and one question at a time. Author of Don’t Shut Up, Forbes-recognized, Columbia-bred. The goal is simple: to make sense of being human in a world that keeps changing. Did you know that AB de Villiers almost went blind and played with one eye for years? This time on PGX, I sat down with the South African cricket legend, famously known as Mr. 360, and talked about his athletic journey, his first impression of Virat Kohli, what it was like sharing the RCB dressing room with Virat and Chris Gayle, and South Africa’s heartbreak at the World Cup. We went deeper to discuss the insecurities even the best players deal with, how cricketers handle pressure and what South Africa needs to finally win a World Cup. Don’t miss this one. Full conversation out at 9 PM IST today.

We often think ambition is about wanting more. But think about it for a second. Why do some people want to achieve so much? Why does the desire to build, to win, to be recognised, to matter become so powerful in some people? Maybe ambition is not always born out of greed. Sometimes it comes from a very human need to feel worthy. So this means that dignity, in the broadest form, needs to be expressed. To be seen. To have a life that feels like evidence of what you were capable of. And when that expression has nowhere to go, it finds another language. It becomes the person who cannot stop working. The person who wants to build something of their own. The person who wants to be the first in their family to do something. And, the person who keeps moving even after they have already achieved enough. From the outside, it looks like ambition. But underneath it, there may be something else. A subtle refusal to remain small. A desire to reclaim something. To prove to yourself, and sometimes to the world, that you are capable of more than the circumstances you came from allowed you to believe. Maybe that is why ambition can be so difficult to satisfy. Because sometimes you are not chasing the next achievement. You are chasing a feeling of dignity that you never quite got to experience. When dignity has no outlet, it turns into ambition. The need to prove, to build, to become, to leave something behind. Ambition is unexpressed dignity. Does it make sense now?
